Ways To Cheer Yourself Up
We've all had days where we haven't been feeling ourselves and have been a bit down in the dumps. It's important that when we feel this way we try not to avoid it. Instead it's good to appreciate you. Appreciate yourself. Take some time away from the chaos of life. Spend sometime making yourself feel good again. I know I definitely need to do this more often. Maybe you do too. Have a read of 8 ways to cheer yourself up when you're feeling down.

1. Allow yourself to feel

The first step is to allow yourself to feel the way you do. If you feel sad, angry, hurt, grumpy, emotional, whatever it is you're feeling inside acknowledge it. Don't hide or run from it. This will only make it worse. Allow yourself to move through how you're feeling. Feel free to scream, cry or speak out about how you're feeling to someone you trust. There's nothing wrong with showing emotion. It's actually very healthy. I love having a good ol' cry!

2. Get up and do something!

Once you've accepted how you feel, the next thing to do is simply to get up and do something. You've had a good cry, now it's time to move forward and not allow yourself to drown in self pity. I have such a bad habit of doing this, but I always feel so much better once I've got off my butt and done something productive. This could be a range of different things. Do some exercise, take the dog for a walk, bake something tasty, meet up with a friend, go for a bike ride, whatever it is do it! Don't stay in bed feeling sorry for yourself. You'll regret it, trust me.

3. Seek help from others

When I'm feeling down or worried, I try to seek as much advice and support as I can. If you suffer with mental health like me this can be really essential in making yourself feel a little better. Call up a friend or ask someone to come over, whatever the situation or whoever it is, make sure you feel comfortable and happy to be there, as well as talk to them. Getting things off your chest and out in the open is so important for also being aware of how you feel. Also others will be able to offer you support, encouragement and even advice to help you deal with whatever is bothering you.

4. Laughter is the best medicine!

You know what they say, laughter is the best medicine! Laughing can be great for decreasing stress, as well as helping to release endorphin's, the bodies natural feel-good chemical. These chemicals help with improving well-being and can temporarily relieve pain. Sit down with a cuppa tea, put on your favourite film, tv show, youtube video, you know the one that is sure to make you laugh or beam from ear to ear! Or meet up with a close friend or family member who you know will make you laugh instantly, as well as offer that support you also need.

5. Take some time out

Being away from a busy and hectic routine every so often can be beneficial to our well-being. After you get in from work or school, why not run yourself a hot bubble bath, chose some of your favourite pamper products and relax for as long as possible. You could also even grab your favourite book and have a good read whilst you're doing so, or sit and listen to your favourite songs to really boost that mood. Nothing better than a good sing a long!

6. Treat yourself

I always believe there is nothing wrong with treating ourselves in times of low mood and stress! Retail therapy is a great thing to do to take your mind off things and make yourself feel good again. Of course, if money stress is an issue, then be careful and know your limits. But if you really want to treat yourself, then I say go for it. If you want that new eyes shadow palette then go get it, if you want to treat yourself to a new camera then go for it, need that new outfit in your life, then go bloody get it! In the words of Blair Waldorf, whoever said money doesn't buy happiness didn't know where to shop.

7.  Make yourself feel good

Looking and feeling your best is what we all strive for! We all hate it when we feel bad about ourselves and our self confidence is lacking. To avoid feeling this way, pick out your favourite outfit, you know the one where you feel super comfortable in but also feel you look good too. Grab your favourite lipstick colour, in my opinion the bolder the better! Slip on some cute underwear that you know will instantly make you feel good. Anything lacy and pretty takes my pick when I'm feeling this way!

8. Look for inspiration and feel inspired

Having a browse on Instagram or Pinterest can bring my motivation up massively. I love looking through quotes or reading inspiration stories when I'm feeling down. Not only do you feel like you can relate which makes you feel less alone, but it also gives you a bit of a kick up the butt to go make that change about how you're feeling. Whenever you feel like you're struggling, always go back to these quotes and use them to help you overcome whatever situations you face with a bit of positivity.

How do you like to cheer yourself up?
