What To Do When You're Single At Valentines
10:00
Valentines day when you're single is stereotypically supposed to be one of the worst celebrations of the year. For me who's spending valentine's day alone for the first time in four years this year, I can totally see why it would admittedly be one of the more days us single ladies seem to dread. But I'm not going to let it be something I can't not celebrate just because I'm not loved up, you know? Instead I'm going to have it as the day that I take time out for ME and focus on loving myself as much as I possibly can (which btw we should all be doing every single day of the year anyway). So if you're a singleton like me and don't have anyone 'special' to spend the 14th with, then keep on reading because I've got a fair few ways you can make it your special day instead!
Treat yourself - First and foremost thing you need to do even if you're not single at valentines, (please do it anyway) is to treat yourself! We all deserve a little treat to ourselves more often than not. This could be anything from that makeup product you've had your eye on for ages, a whole new outfit you've been planning in your head, perhaps you fancy ordering in a take away or a glass of wine or two. Use valentines as the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to something you wouldn't usually do or something you really want. Of course, you don't have to spend heaps of money. It could literally be having a bubble bath and pampering yourself, purchasing yourself some flowers for a couple of pounds or putting on your favourite set of lingerie. Go for whatever it is you want and enjoy it!
Have a night with your girl friends - I hear galentines day is a pretty great way to spend the fourteenth of February too! Gather your single friends and celebrate the day of love together without having to feel lonely all by yourself. Cook some delicious food, go for some drinks, remise about old dating disasters and talk about hopes for the future, put on a chick flick or a rom-com to help lighten up the mood. You know what they say, chicks before dicks.
Fall in love with something new - Down about a failed relationship? Fed up of being alone? Annoyed that you're not feeling any love? Well there's one easy way to change that. Fall in love with something completely new. Start a new hobby you've always wanted to try, take up a new class where you can learn lots of new skills, discover a new tv series to get hooked on, check out some new music or an artist, do something you might never have done before and you'll probably find out that you actually quite love it. Who needs a partner to do that?
Share the love - Valentine's day is obviously all about love, but you don't exactly need another half to be able to share your love. You can easily share your love with other people in even the smallest of ways. Do something for someone else, whether this is buying someone behind you in the queue a coffee or offering someone a lift somewhere. Help a stranger out with whatever it is they might be struggling with and you might have the perfect solution. Let your friends know how amazing they are and how much you appreciate them. Cook dinner for your family. Praise someone on social media. Maybe if you're feeling lucky and as cliche as it may possibly be, tell the person you like that you actually like them. You never know what might happen.
Have a self love day - No one else deserves as much love from you than yourself. Ensure Valentines day (and every single day after) is the day you give yourself some loving. Take care of yourself and be kind to yourself. Pick yourself up if you're feeling down about the day or life in general. Know that it will get easier and that the bad times really do not last forever. Fall in love with the person you are, from the way you look, talk and your personality. Work on improving yourself if there's something you don't like or want to be better at. Do the things you enjoy doing and what bring you the most happiness. Remember to be yourself and be positive!
It's just one day out of the year everyone goes crazy for this thing called love, but remember that you're just as important even if you're alone and don't think you have anyone to spend it with. Take it as it's your day to focus on YOU and doing what provides you with the most happiness.
What are your plans for Valentine's day?
